Nikon D5100 memory card problem

I ran into a problem with the Nikon D5100 when inserting a new unformatted SanDisk Ultra SDHC 16GB memory card. The camera was not able to format the card and claimed that no memory card was inserted. Fortunately, another camera was able to recognize and format the card. After inserting the card back to D5100 the card was recognized by the camera, and allows formatting the card.

How to use N8 as a modem with mac

Its convinient to connect to the web with your phone as a modem on to go. Joikuspot has a free program for this, but lacks the encryption and allows no user screening, so your phone is shouting for people that the one round of internet is on you. Anyway, I was impressed with this software, so I almost bought the official version. I decided at the last minute checked my options. It turns out that the most simple way is just to use the pre-existing software on your phone / mac. Obviously...

Things you need to use your N8 as a wire-modem:

  1. The USB-cable between your N8 and computer
  2. The APN of your mobile internet provider.

OK, let's get started:

  1. Connect the devices with the USB cable.
  2. Set the N8 to the "ovi suite mode". This is confusing, since there's even a "use as a modem" option, but don't select it. Ok, just select it and notice that nothing happens and proceed to next item.
    1. If you don't know how to setup the connection mode go to the home screen. Tap the right upper corner symbol for USB/Battery/etc. A small menu will appear, tap the USB symbol again. Now you can change the connection mode. Select the "ovi suite" mode at the top.
  3. Modems will appear visible on your mac. Click ->system settings->network. You should see some items as "N8-00-usbmodem-something" on the left.
  4. Select one, set Telephone number to *99# (this step might be obsolete)
  5. Hit 'Advanced' and
    1. Change 'vendor' to nokia
    2. Set 'Model' to GPRS/GSM/3G
    3. Type your APN here.
    4. click 'Ok'
  6. Click 'Connect'

That's it, you're set for browsing.
